  • 1. ROR icon Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München

Description

This dataset contains the simulation data from the benchmark experiments relating to mantle convection conducted with the matrix-free Finite Element Framework HyTeG (Hybrid Tetrahedral Grids), in the form of adios2 files.
It also serves as the supplementary materials to the manuscript submitted to the GMD (Geoscientific Model Development) Journal.

The data is split into four folders:

  • plotting
    • This folder contains the jupyter notebook needed to recreate the plots in the manuscript
    • It contains the error data for convergence plots (both analytical order of convergence study and Nusselt number convergence study)
    • Also the subdirectory contains `plotting/data/sph` folder, under which, the data for radially averaged temperature profiles for the Spherical shell cases (section 4.2.3) can be found:
      • `plotting/data/sph/A3` contains profile data for A3 case
      • `plotting/data/sph/C1_C3` contains profile data for C1 and C3 case
      • `plotting/data/sph/euen` contains profile data taken from the data published from (Euen et.al. 2023)
  • compressible
    • Contains compressible benchmark cases on the unit square relating to section 4.2.1
    • Contains the adios2 paraview files needed for visualization of the highest resolution cases
  • nonlinear
    • Contains nonlinear benchmark cases on the unit square relating to section 4.2.2
    • Contains the adios2 paraview files needed for visualization of the highest resolution cases
  • sphbench
    • Contains benchmark cases A3, C1 and C3 on the spherical shell relating to section 4.2.3
    • Contains adios2 paraview files needed for visualization, checkpoint files and log files for the above three cases
